Do this now:
In a small saucepan, combine the following:
- cloves (whole or ground, whatever you have)
- cinnamon (whole or ground, whatever you have)
- lemon or orange (slices or extract, whatever you have)
- nutmeg or allspice
Add a few cups of water and simmer all day long, adding more water as needed. My house is filled with the lovely warm scent, and it's just a pity you can't drink that stuff, because it smells amazing. However, depending on how many ground spices you have to use, it looks pretty revolting and is relatively easy to NOT put in your mouth.

Every time we decorated the tree growing up, mom would put cider on the stove in a big pot and add an orange, punctured by cloves, and a few cinnamon sticks. The smell was festive and delicious, and we COULD drink it! Best of both worlds! Enjoy!

Addie, you know what's even better? Throw all that stuff in with your coffee grounds when you brew the next pot. I had some that was made that way at a diner the other day, and I took one sip and shouted "This coffee tastes like CHRISTMAS!"
i am pretty sure that liz took your advice when i was at her house she had christmasy goodness smelling up the entire house.
